Trevor Nootenboom, Registered
Massage Therapist,
Active Release Technique Provider
| |
Trevor graduated from an intensive three-year Massage Therapy Program with Honors from Algonquin College in 2000. While he was there, Trevor was elected as one of the first student representatives of the program to ultimately become the Program Council Chairman – a position he held for three years. He took on additional responsibility as a student representative of the Academic Council for the Health and Life Sciences Faculty. Upon graduation, he was the first student to receive the Lippincott Award – presented to the student elected by their peers who they felt contributed most to the program, assisted their fellow students, and among those of the best academic standing. Graduation from Algonquin allowed him to write and perform an oral-practical provincial exam, which he graduated from on his first attempt.
Trevor has been an integral part of Back to Health since massage therapy has been offered as a service in 2000. His foundation is based around Swedish Massage Techniques – one of the most popular styles in this part of the world. Over the years most of his work involves a modality known as Active Release Technique (ART). Using the skills he has learned, Trevor has been very successful treating nerve entrapments (such as sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome), postural abnormalities/inefficiencies (such as those that might arise from prolonged computer work), tendonitis, ligament sprains & muscle strains, and chronic headaches. He also regularly treats the negative side effects associated with pregnancy (such as sacral iliac joint laxity, sciatica, postural changes and centre of gravity alterations). There are not many sport injuries Trevor has not seen. He has treated CFL and NFL players, countless Olympians and nationally ranked athletes, professional athletes such as Kick boxers and African marathon runners, and most importantly, the ‘weekend warrior.' Last, but not least, Trevor was hired as one of three RMTs to treat the performers of the Cirque du Soliel's presentation of “Quidam.”
His approach is treatment-oriented. While he is more than capable of performing a relaxation massage, most of his patients see him for specific problems. He works with a heavy, yet precise hand. His mantra is, “if you want to change the tissue, you have to challenge it.” While he works with a higher degree of force, he always works within patient tolerances.
Over the years Trevor has gained a reputation as an RMT who gets results. He enjoys a high patient retention rate, due to his success treating difficult problems. If you think you have an issue that he can help with, he looks forward to meeting with you.
