Important things to consider if a heel lift has been recommended for you…

When do I wear a Lift?

Always! It is very important to utilize your lift in all footwear. The lift must even be worn while sitting as it keeps the hips from rotatin

Do I have to wear my lift forever?

It depends on a variety of factors. Is there a true anatomical leg length difference? If so then that will not change.
Often with chiropractic treatment the need for the lift lessens as corrections take place. We will be reassessing the lift height required during your progress evaluations. Sometimes the lift height is lessened or sometimes even removed.

How does it help with my treatment/healing?

It keeps your hips better aligned and prevents rotation between adjustments. It prevents shifting “wobbly table” action at the hips, thus acting like a shim. This relieves muscles, joints in the lumbar spine, hips, knees and feet.

How do I wear a lift in my sandals or heels?

Usually the lift will shift out of a sandal or forward in a high heeled shoe. It is necessary to attach it with some tape to keep it in place. If you have the clear packing tape then roll it up and place it on the bottom of the heel lift.

Can I react to the heel lift?

Yes you can. The heel lift will change the alignment of your hips. Since your body is used to the unlevel position it may take some time to get used to the “new” alignment. If you experience any discomfort with the heel lift remove it. You may have to get used to the new alignment more slowly. The next day try wearing it for a few hours then remove it. The following day wear it longer until you are up to wearing it all the time. If you still are unable to tolerate it remove it entirely and speak to Dr. Rodwin at your next appointment.
